About Jolt Business Finance

What Jolt Business Finance is for, who writes it, how claims are checked, and where to write when we get something wrong.

About this blog

Jolt Business Finance is a blog, and the line under the logo, Plain-language money guidance for small businesses, is the whole editorial brief. New articles go up when they are ready, and everything we have published stays available in the blog archive.

There was no plan. Nathaniel Frost kept being asked the same handful of questions about Practical money management for small businesses and the self-employed, got tired of writing the same reply, and put the replies somewhere permanent.

Who writes here

There is no house byline here. Each piece is signed, and each signature leads to everything else that person has put their name to.

Nathaniel Frost, Cash flow and pricing writer. Nathaniel writes about the everyday money decisions that keep small businesses alive, focused on cash and profit over vanity metrics.

Bianca Serrano, Bookkeeping and tax writer. Bianca explains records and taxes for small business owners, turning intimidating obligations into manageable routines.

Omar Haddad, Funding and growth writer. Omar covers raising money and managing growth, helping owners expand without losing control of their finances.

The method

We write from notes taken while doing the thing, not from a summary of other summaries. Where we are unsure, the page says so in plain words.

We buy what we write about. It is slower, it is more expensive, and it is the only arrangement that lets us say a thing was not worth it.

If you want the mechanics rather than the summary, the editorial policy has them, including what we refuse to publish.

Where we stop

What we do not do is predict outcomes. Nothing about Practical money management for small businesses and the self-employed works that way, and pages that pretend otherwise are selling something.

What we cover

  • Cash Flow. Keeping money moving through your business so it never runs dry.
  • Funding and Loans. Raising money for a business sensibly, without drowning in debt.
  • Bookkeeping. Keeping clear records so you always know where your business stands.
  • Pricing and Profit. Pricing your products and services so the business actually makes money.
  • Taxes and Compliance. Staying on top of business taxes and obligations without the stress.
  • Managing Growth. Growing a business without outrunning your cash and control.
  • Games. Video games and gaming, from what we play to how games connect to the rest of life.

Nothing gets filed under three headings at once. If a piece does not have an obvious home, that usually means it has not been thought through yet. The busiest sections are cash flow, funding and loans and bookkeeping.

Corrections

Corrections go to [email protected]. Quote the sentence rather than describing it. We would rather log a visible correction than edit a page and hope nobody noticed, and the contact page explains the rest.
